Left Wartin at 8:30 and got into Berlin relatively early. Went past a service station that looked IDENTICAL to one we went to before. Didn't realize that it was a different one until someone pointed out that the playground outside was different. Freaky as man!
The people who weren't on the guided tour were dropped off outside the ZOO. A group of us headed to the subway, but the line we wanted at this station was being repaired, so we had to walk to the next one - over 3km away! We went up the victory column (amazing) saw the Reichstag, and the Brandenburg gate. Having decided that we wouldn't make the meeting time of 2:30 at Checkpoint Charlie, we went straight to the hostel. Even though the group knew we weren't going to be there, they didn't tell us that they were going to be 1 and a half hours late :/ so we just sat there, waiting. The hostel is just that. Quite budget but that's ok! It's literally right next to the subway <3>
After we dropped off our stuff we headed down to Potsdamer Platz where we had a look around and a nice dinner (in the mall :/) after that Emily, Robbie and I split off and checked out the Sony Centre, and then the Holocaust memorial. This was truly sobering and amazing. It looks quite subtle from the outside, but you go in, and down. The columns rise up beside you, way up, and it makes you feel so isolated, alone. We went just after sunset, which I think gave the optimum effect. Honestly amazing. Reminds you of how good we have it now, and what we have to lose.
After this, we continued to stroll towards Alexanderplatz, and on the way we passed the Brandenburg gate again, as well as the Staatsoper, and the UNIVERSITY of Humboldt (sp?) and the faculties looked amazing. So want to go here now =p. Apparently they have free tuition for all? Wow.
It was about 10:30pm by the time we got to Alexanderplatz, and it was windy and cold. Decided we'd go to random stations around eastern Berlin and look around. So much fun. Definitely recommend it.
Headed back to the hostel at midnight. Doing some shopping today, and got the concert tonight! It'll be so epic. Quite nervous and excited. :)
